Everyone, regardless of how disciplined they are with their diet, will from time to time fall victim to cravings for one food item or another. For people trying to lose weight, these cravings are even more of a challenge to deal with than for someone simply maintaining their weight. Regardless of whether or not you are trying to lose weight however, cravings can be the one thing that makes you break your normal dietary habits and overdo the calories you usually try to do without.

Most people know that getting some kind of exercise and eating healthy, low-fat foods is the key to maintaining good health, but with the hectic and hurried schedules so many people have these days, sometimes eating right and getting exercise can be easier said than done. The best way to insure against dietary disaster when you do get those cravings throughout the day is to plan ahead and use a little strategy.

For one thing, try to plan 5 to 6 small meals with one to be eaten around every 3 hours of the day and make it a point not to miss any of them. It takes an average of 2 ? hours for the human body to digest a meal, so by the time you start to feel a craving coming on, it?s almost time for your next meal anyway.

Make it a point to drink plenty of water. Quite often, feelings of hunger between meals are really your body trying to signal thirst. By keeping a bottle of water with you all day and making it a point to take constant ?sips? throughout the day, you will keep hydrated, feel better, and eliminate one common cause for cravings to happen.

When you are at home, always try to keep some fresh fruit on hand. If you are hit with a craving, fruit is a better choice than cake or chips. Also, make a fat-free dip and cut up some fresh veggies like carrots and celery and keep them in the fridge. This will give you another quick and healthy snack that you can just grab and eat during a craving.

Never go to a party, a meeting, or any event where there will be food available on an empty stomach. This will set you right up to over eat when you get there. Always eat a small meal or at least eat a good, healthy snack before you go as this will help to stop cravings from hitting you while there.

If there are certain snack foods that you really enjoy, don?t try to completely cut them out. You will only overindulge in them when you can?t control the urge to have them later. Plan these snacks into your day, and just make them snacks that you have once in a while and in moderate amounts when you do.

Remember that just because certain food items are fat-free does not mean they are calorie free. When turning to fat free snacks, be careful of how many calories they contain and adjust your portions accordingly. It is very easy to assume fat-free is ?safe? and go way overboard on them.

The next time you are hit with cravings, remember these little guidelines and you will be able to deal with them without ruining your efforts to maintain healthy eating habits.

When you put yourself on a diet you may be setting yourself up for failure from the start.

What!!?

It’s true. Diets are stressful. Stress causes hormones to be released that start a whole chain reaction of eating issues for a lot of people. This is why weight loss with hypnosis is so
powerful: change your behavior and your weight will begin to melt off you.

Under stress, many people eat for relief, which, unfortunately, lasts only as long as the last bite. The problems will suddenly reappear. The reality is, they never went away. The inevitable feelings of being a failure set in. Not only didn’t you solve your problems, you created a new one, right there around your waist.

The solution?

Find tools besides a fork to attack emotional angst. In the time it takes to forage for your favorite quick-fix food, you can take steps to break the cycle, beat stress, eliminate emotional eating and yes, finally drop that excess weight for good without even trying.

Food cravings, especially for emotional eaters, mean you want something else. It could be creative stimulation, companionship, or more satisfaction in life. What are your eating triggers? Boredom, frustration, and loneliness? Once you figure out what the real issue is youhave a great chance to change the behavior. Here’s how to figure it out and “feed” your real issue.

1. Keep a food journal.
Every time you reach for food, write down what you eat and how you were feeling. Patterns will emerge. Once you recognize the pattern you are on a path to start to break it.

2. Shop for some new “stimulants.”
Do you eat when you’re bored? Time to make a new “grocery” list: buy inexpensive, accessible things such as books, CDs, and tapes or DVDs of favorite films that provide the emotional lift you’re seeking from food. Keep them handy, and turn to them when you’re down.

3. Call your best friend.
Do you eat to escape painful feelings? Make a human connection instead of eating. Call someonewho makes you feel good. someone who makes you feel good.

4. Create new habits.
Find a hobby. When you’re engrossed in something you love, you forget all about eating, especially if you’re active. Falling in love with an activity like walking or bicycling is even better.

5. Head toward your dreams.
Moving towards goals, one little step at a time is satisfying. With taking a simple, small step forward the feelings of empowerment and accomplishment provide a heady satisfaction that begins a cycle of satisfaction and for many, satisfaction without food.

6. Find new rewards.
Like most people, you probably eat to celebrate happiness too. Find new, affordable rewards such as earrings or tickets to a play or movie.

This article is about weight loss and how to live a more healthy life, I hope you find it interesting to read and beneficial. I have had a lot of problems with my weight over the years and by the age of twenty-two had had enough of being obese. In the article I write about how I eventually lost my excess pounds.

I have always struggled to keep my weight under control. Being over-weight affected my whole life, I was unable to wear the clothes I wanted to and I often felt guilty after eating certain foods. I was adamant that if only I could lose a couple of stones my confidence would increase and that I would ultimately be a lot happier.

I read many books and attempted to follow a range of diets. For whatever reason this did not seem to help me, mainly because I could not stick to their weight loss programs due to my love of fatty foods.

One day I was talking to a neighbour who was not only very nice but also quite thin. She looked very fit and healthy and I enquired as to how she kept so trim.

This neighbour who is called Gillian seemed quite taken aback and even flattered by my question and went quite coy. She stated that at one point in her life, she had also had a weight problem and had not been happy about it. What she was about to say was quite a shock to me, however would eventually change my life.

She went on to say that wherever she went to at this stage of her life, she would travel to by car. Gillian had realised that in an average week, she did very little exercise and at times did none at all. She then went out and bought a dog and would take this pet for a walk at least twice a day. This was not a choir for Gillian and over the next few years even resulted in her meeting a number of new friends. Previously, Gillian had seen exercise as a hassle and very time consuming but on various days she would take her dog on four walks, she enjoyed it that much.

Gillian quickly noticed that not only was she losing weight but that she also felt a lot healthier. It was not long before she was at a weight she was happy with.

After listening to Gillian’s story I decided to follow her weight loss program. Yes I went and bought a dog and am happy to report that it has also worked for me.

You and I know that losing fat and staying in great shape is a difficult task because it is so hard to stay motivated and it is so tempting to cheat, especially when you can hide the cheating. We dieters have all been in a starving situation when dieting and our mind reasons very quickly why that extra piece of pie is not going to hurt us. We take it, forget about it and then wonder next day why we didn?t lose weight.

For most of us dieting is a constant battle between emotion and reason and when hungry, reason is out of the window and emotion just wins. We do not see the immediate effects of our behavior and therefore our brain is fooled into thinking that everything is all right. On the other hand, let?s say you would get very sick when eating more than you need, overeating would stop very quickly.

Getting sick after a little bit of overeating does normally not happen therefore we need to find a different way to show the consequences of our behavior. We need to show this in a factual manner, an immediate visual display of the results of our cheating. It is not punishment right away, but over time our brain will be conditioned such that taking an extra piece of pie will give negative weight loss results. Then we will start to understand why we don?t lose weight and can pinpoint the causes.

What should this visual display look like? First I like charts, they are very easy to understand and can show trends and correlations between variables. In this chart I would like to see over a period of time, the average calories that I take in per day compared with the average calories that I burn per day. If the chart shows that the intake calories are lower than the burned calories, I will lose weight and vice versa I will gain weight. Correlate that with a chart that shows your weight or BMI (Body Mass Index) over time and I have the tool that helps me regulate my food consumption versus my daily activities.

If I add my hunger levels before and after the meals, I can fine tune my meal plans and daily activities. In this way I can sustain my dieting for a long time and preferably it will become my way of life. I have minimized the hunger pain and increase the pleasure of losing weight and feeling more attractive.

There is abundance of free online food calorie calculators. These calorie counters just display nutrition facts and are not going to help you lose weight. Nor is a simple calorie calculator that tries to calculate your calories burned solely based on your weight and average activity level. These are simple little gimmicks that are a waste of your time.

Only when you seriously can track and correlate your calorie intake and calories burned over time, depending on your age, weight, gender, height and individual activity intensity levels can you precisely measure your calorie balance. Seeing visually that your weight loss program works is a big motivator to stay on track. Also you can see immediately when you are off track and you can adjust your situation accordingly.

Acquiring great health is a complex task. Interrelating factors like diet, nutritional facts, meal plans, calorie balance, body reading measurements, supplement and medicine intake, exercise routines, daily activity intensity and costs will make it very difficult for you to see the forest for the trees.
Well designed software that keeps track of all of the above factors and can correlate them will make it very easy to manage your health, fitness, weight loss, muscle mass gain or any goal you have set…

When someone joins my personal coaching program, one of the first things I ask them to do is to describe exactly what their body is going to look like once I help them reach their goal weight. I ask them to do this in writing ? not over the phone, and here?s why?

Deeply imbedded negative thoughts are what cause us to have difficulties in any weight loss or health enhancement program ? in fact, our past failures can almost always be traced back to negative thoughts that we didn?t even realize we had.

Most of our negative thinking comes out when we write things down on paper (or on the computer).

I challenge you to write out 10 brief descriptions about how your body will look in 30 days if you were coached by someone like me ? someone who knows exactly how to transform the human body no matter what stage of the game you?re currently at.

Go ahead, take a moment and write out what your face would look like, what your arms would look like, what your legs and your butt would look like ? would your skin look different, would your muscles be tighter, would you be leaner ? detail everything, then come right back.

Did you do it?

Make your list now before reading any further ? I want you to walk away with some profound knowledge of yourself when you?re done reading this article.
OK, now that you have your list, let me show you something that you can use to judge whether or not you?ve been causing yourself to fail in your attempts to lose weight and keep it off.

Here are some examples of statements that a good friend of mine used to have before he and I began working together ? statements that were literally holding him back from success:

Face?more chiseled features, no double chin, no doughy jowls or puffy cheeks, no bags under the eyes.

Other than improved facial shape, I really have no complaints at all about my face, hair, eyes, nose, ears.

Neck?no double chin or ?wattle?

Chest?no gynecomastia (womanly breasts), muscular instead. Look, ma, I can see my ribcage and pectoral muscles instead of a soft mattress of flab.

Arms?hard sinewy curves instead of soft breadsticks. Seeing veins and muscles instead of smooth fat.

Abdomen?are there really abs hiding in there? They?ve never made an appearance in 50 years! It?d be nice to have a tight waist not uncomfortably sliced by too-tight underwear.

Legs?less of a conical shape, more elongated and solid. Although my calves have always been rather large and firm?my best body part, next to my brain.

Buttocks?less sag, more form
Back?could be a lot less hairy, would be nice to see a ?V? shape instead of a truncated pyramid.

Can you see why he might have had a few troubles in the past reaching his goal?

But I?ll let you in on a little secret ? this guy is in great shape now and enjoying life more than ever, and he?s a pleasure to speak with each week in our coaching calls.

You’ve no doubt heard that it is better to eat many small meals throughout the day (approximately 5-6), than to go all day without eating and then “gorging” yourself on dinner in the evening. But did you ever wonder why?

The fact is, your body can only process about 350 calories every 90 minutes. Eat more than that, and you’re most likely overloading your digestive system. If your body cannot use all the “fuel” you provide it at any given time, it will use what it can (and only what it can), and then store the rest as body fat. It assumes, through thousands of years of experience, that there will be “lean” times when it will need those fat reserves for fuel. But in this modern age, we, thankfully, seldom face those lean times.

Because of this, if we are to keep our weight from spiraling out of control, we must, by CHOICE limit our quantities of food, as well as the KINDS of food.

So, how do we use this information in losing weight? Simple. Eat light, but eat often. There are many benefits to this strategy. First, you are only providing your body what it needs, when it needs it. Second, you are able to better maintain a consistent blood sugar level, and so you’re not left feeling tired all day.

And by making certain wise and healthful choices, you will find the 350 calorie limit CAN be quite filling. Make poor choices, however, and you’ll be left feeling unsatisfied. So be sure to choose healthful fruits & vegetables and limit your intake of breads & cereals (these calories will add up fast). Also, when including meat in the diet, choose ONLY healthful, low-fat fish & fowl.

Trump Place (also known as Riverside South and Trump City and Television City) is an apartment complex originated by Donald Trump on the Upper West Side of the New York City borough of Manhattan, New York.

The $3 billion project on a 56 acre site between 59th Street and 72nd Street was to include 16 apartment buildings with 5,700 residential units, 1,800,000 square feet (167,000 m2) of studio space, 300,000 square feet (30,000 m2) of office and retail space, and a 23 acre waterfront park. The studio and office space was not approved. Nevertheless, Trump Place is the biggest privately-developed complex currently being built in New York City.

History

Rail Yards


Riverside Park extension, looking south near 72nd on land once called the Penn Rail yards. Donald Trump and his investors donated 23 acres as part of their Trump Place project.

The land for the development is a freight rail yard once owned by the New York Central Railroad. New York Central’s rail track north of 72nd Street was buried in the 1930s in a Robert Moses project called the “West Side Improvement.” The project was bigger than Hoover Dam and created the Henry Hudson Parkway. It also created Riverside Park and was so skillfully done that many believe the park and road are at grade level.

New York Central merged with the Pennsylvania Railroad to form Penn Central in 1968 as the rail lines were suffering severe financial difficulties that would ultimately lead to the demise of both. The rail yard was to be called the “Penn Yards” even though Penn Central only owned it for a brief period.

In 1962 the railroad proposed a partnership with the Amalgamated Lithographers Union to build a mixed-use development with 12,000 apartments, Litho City, on platforms over the tracks. The late 1960s saw various proposals by the city’s Educational Construction Fund for mixed residential and school projects.

As the railroad as well as the city faced bankruptcy, Donald Trump first optioned the property for $10 million in 1974. His proposal for 12,450 apartments depended on public financing, which never materialized. Eventually an Argentinian developer bought the property and plans for “Lincoln West” were approved in 1981, but the developer later declared bankruptcy before any construction had started.

In January 1985, Donald Trump bought the site for $100 million in partnership with developer Abe Hirschfeld.

Television City and the 152-Story World’s Tallest Building

In 1987, Trump proposed turning the complex into Television City with the headquarters of NBC along with its various studios. The plan involved in 16,500,000 square feet (1,530,000 m2) of construction. The Television City name also infringed on CBS’s registered trademark for their Los Angeles facility.

The centerpiece of the project was to be a Helmut Jahn designed 152-story tower.

The project generated fierce opposition and was ultimately scrapped. NBC eventually negotiated to continue broadcasting in Rockefeller Center.

At this point the project was renamed Trump City and downsized slightly to 14,500,000 square feet (1,350,000 m2), but that failed to satisfy the critics. In 1989 six civic organizations proposed an alternative, known as “Riverside South” — a largely residential project of 7,300,000 square feet (678,000 m2) with a relocated West Side Highway and a 23 acre public park. Hobbled by his weak financial position, Trump acquiesced and formed a partnership with his critics. The compromise project was approved in 1992 without the studio and office space that Trump substituted for some of the residential space. The final project size was 5,800,000 square feet (539,000 m2) with the two southern blocks still largely available for additional development.

The Hong Kong Investors

As Trump faced bankruptcy in the early 1990s during his divorce from Ivana Trump and marriage to Marla Maples, he was forced to sell the land to a group of Hong Kong investors, but he remained as the public face of the group (as he has on many other projects that have his name but which he really doesn’t own). Plans were delayed for several years as the new investors sought public financing.

The new investors began construction in 1997. In 2005, the Hong Kong investors sold the property to the Carlyle Group. Trump sued, contending that the sale for $1.76 billion was $1.5 billion less than what the property was worth. Trump lost his suit, but Trump’s name remains on the buildings.

One of the key components of Riverside South was burying the West Side Highway from approximately West 70th Street to West 61st Street. This section is the only remaining elevated section of the elevated highway which once extended to the southern tip of Manhattan.

Plans to reconstruct the highway had been proposed for years. A portion of the elevated highway, which was mostly built in the 1920s and 1930s, collapsed in 1973 at 14th Street. Rather than repairing the antiquated road, the state closed it and proceeded with a plan to replace the viaduct with an interstate highway in new landfill, known as Westway. Fifteen years later, after the failure of the Westway proposal, the state settled on an at-grade boulevard and a new Hudson River Park.

The section between 72nd and 59th Street was a little thornier because, while it owned an easement, neither the state nor the city owned the land. Acquiring the land to relocate the highway was thought to interfere with private development, which was seen, at the time (the 1970s), as preferable to the alternative –- public financing of a park (See History of New York City (1946-1977)).

Despite city approval in 1991 of the plan to bury the road, opponents claim it would offer a windfall to the developers of the Trump project and waste the public funds used to renovate the viaduct in 1990. Residents have been further upset by the necessity of closing the West 72nd Street exit from the West Side Highway.

However, in June, 2006, the developer began construction of an enclosure for the relocated highway between 61st and 67th streets, while battles over burying the section continue. New north-south roads inside the development are called Riverside Boulevard and Liberty Place.

Buildings

Trump Place is projected to be completed by 2009. It will consist of sixteen apartment buildings, condominiums, and lease properties. As of the end of 2007, there are seven buildings completed and have been mostly rented out (and the condominiums are completely sold out). It is projected to pay for itself within ten years of completion.

Living

As with all dwellings bearing the Trump name, living quarters in Trump Place is likely to be positioned towards the affluent living/premium and high-end housing segment. Nevertheless, 12% to 20% of the units will be “affordable,” as required by the City Planning Commission approval of the project.

Googlism is a web application which queries text in Google, and displays the multiple ways in which the term is used among the results. The point is to type a word, and see what google “thinks” about that word. “It parses the results of a Google search, extracting oracular nuggets of wisdom like “dick cheney is not dead yet,” “ As its home website describes: “Within the Google results are thousands of your thoughts and opinions about thousands of different topics, people, names, things and places, we simply search Google and let you know what website owners think about the name or topic you suggested.”.

Googlism is a popular tool for the generation of non sequitur humour. “It’s like a zany-madcap humour generator” - Waldopepper, FilePile. It is also a presentation of internet postmodernism.

As of early 2004, Google made changes to their servers which prevent Googlism from gaining fresh data. Consequently, any searches done on Googlism after that is a result of data received before the change.

Googlism was created by Paul Cherry and Chris Morton. The site has been featured in PCMag.com, About.com and ZDNet.com.
